Doctors Should Be Screening For Anger In Postpartum Checkups, Study Says

Along with feelings of joy and overwhelming love, new moms are bombarded with a slew of emotions that can include overwhelming sadness and anxiety. Increased awareness of the symptoms of postpartum depression and other mood disorders have led to more comprehensive surveys given at appointments. But along with these emotions, doctors should also be screening for anger in postpartum checkups, according to a recent study, because it, too, could be a sign of postpartum depression. A team of researchers out of the University of British Columbia reviewed past studies and found that anger was a significant feature in postpartum mood disturbances, according to Science Daily. The review, led by UBC nursing Ph.D. student Christine Ou, was published in  Birth  and also found that moms had feelings of powerlessness, unmet expectations of support, and a perceived difference between the reality and their expectations of motherhood. While anger is a normal and expected emotion, when one is

What Is Emotional Attraction and Why Is It Important?

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt really close to someone, yet couldn’t imagine kissing or getting intimate with him or her? How about a situation where you could definitely imagine kissing someone, but couldn’t image having a deep conversation? You were probably feeling the difference between emotional and physical attraction. Emotional attraction is when you’re attracted to someone’s mind and spirit, and you may or may not be physically attracted to them. Meaningful romantic relationships are formed when emotional and physical attraction are combined. That’s when the real magic happens. “Emotional attraction is a spirit of kinship. You spend time together, you can have conversations all night long, you find yourself engaging in funny text banter all day,” explains Amica Graber, a relationship expert. “When you’re in a relationship just based on physical attraction, you may feel unsure as to how they really feel beyond the bedroom. Emotional

Coffee In A Cone Is The Craziest New Food Trend Out Of Japan

Most recently, the world was exposed to “avo-latte”, the bizarre pouring of espresso into an empty avocado shell, of course the sequel would be serving coffee in a waffle one. We have to admit, if there’s no spillage, this idea is kind of genius. It’s lined with leak-proof chocolate coating the inside, but you only have about 10 minutes to drink it before the chocolate melts and leaves your precious coffee to soak through the delicate waffle outside. For those of you who prefer to sip on your coffee leisurely, this might not be the best move. People are doing their take on coffee cones all over the world, but Coffee Cone, a cafe in Tokyo, is absolutely killing the edible coffee cup game with their impressive cones! They’re the only cafe in the world catering specifically to this pairing with different cone options, such as Technicolor theme, sprinkles, or matcha powder. The variety of cones lets tasters play around with different flavors, one-upping everyone el

Dating a Friend’s Ex: Is It Ever Cool?

I’ve got the biggest thing for my friend’s ex. She’s cute and awesome, and I always thought we would be good together. I really want to give it a shot without causing drama. Is there an easy way to date a friend’s ex, you know, without screwing my friend over? For this reason alone, I’m glad my friends only date boneheads. Since your friend has better taste, I’ve compiled 3 tips to help you preserve your friendship and get the girl. TIP #1 Be Honest. To avoid damaging your friendship, give your friend a heads up. “Mention your desire to date your friend’s ex in a private setting when your friend is in good spirits,” says dating expert, Stephany Alexander. “If you don’t tell your friend, you’re risking your friendship because he might feel like you are going out with his ex behind his back.” Since your friend will inevitably find out, you have nothing to lose–and everything to gain–by addressing your feelings early on. How to Bounce Back from Bad Dates

At best, having a terrible dating experience can make you feel less excited for the next date. At worst, it can make you want to swear off dating altogether. But rest assured, most bad dates just mean the two of you weren’t a good fit for each other. After all, meeting someone new can have unpredictable outcomes. If you had a great time, it’s disappointing to not hear back after a date. If you had a terrible time, you might be the one doing the disappointing. If you’ve had a bad date (or a string of bad dates) you’re having a hard time bouncing back from, here are a few tips to get over it and move on stronger: 1. Remember, every date will not end the same. Even though we start off almost every date hoping for a happy ending, the majority of them don’t end that way. Sometimes having a bad date can be a reality check that you’re putting too much pressure on your dates to be amazing. Being nonchalant isn’t the worst attitude to have, but you don’t want to anticipa

From can to canvas: Las Vegas artist spray paints Vegas Golden Knights

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) —  As artists go, Gear Duran is both unconventional and remarkable. Combining state of the art technology, like digital illustrators and 3-D computer imaging, with more primitive tools like spray cans, he makes still images and ideas come alive. “So I kind of took that video game, comic book style into the spray paint arena, where I just kind of naturally started doing stuff more character-based,” said Duran. Much of his work until now, could probably be characterized as avant-garde, even eclectic. His latest love however, The Vegas Golden Knights. “Actually, hockey was one of those sports I genuinely liked growing up,” said Duran. “Like no one believed that they (Knights) would make it this far. I mean how long did it take the Capitols to get here? Like 44 years to get here. We got here in how many days?" Without the help of a single paintbrush Gear “sprays” a determined James Neal and a steadfast Marc Andre Fleury, leaving no detail behi

Monumental Sports keeping Metro open late Thursday, and more Caps news ahead of Game 5

The Washington Capitals will be some 2,400 miles away for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final, but thousands of fans will still pack the District to watch it — and the team’s owner is making sure they can get home. Ted Leonsis’ Monumental Sports & Entertainment has agreed to cover the $100,000 to keep Metrorail running one-hour later than normal — that is, until about 1 a.m. The Capitals game starts at 8 p.m., but if the team defeats the Las Vegas Golden Knights, the party will be hours long as D.C. celebrates its first championship in many years. This is the first time Metro has agreed to stay open late for an away game. But this is no normal away game. As it has for all previous away games, Capital One Arena will host a viewing party Thursday night, but the free online tickets, made available Wednesday at 1 p.m., were gone in minutes. More than 70,000 people logged in, Monumental said in a statement, when the tickets became available. The party will shift

Online abuse troubled singer Rebecca Black for years

At the age of 13, Rebecca Black's music video, Friday, became a worldwide viral hit for all the wrong reasons. Now, aged 20, she has told BBC Radio 5 live that it's taken her years to get over the trolling she received. Friday was released on YouTube back in 2011. It was dubbed "the world's worst song" by critics, and quickly became one of the site's most disliked videos, attracting thousands of comments from internet trolls. Rebecca said it hasn't been easy to shake off the abuse: "I saw everything. When I started reading those negative comments I just couldn't stop - I just kept going and going and going. "People commenting don't think a real person has to read this and move on with their day." Rebecca revealed she hadn't actually seen the video before it went live: "I saw it the minute it went on YouTube like everyone else. "We thought, 'it's not like this is going to go anywhere'.

Kanye West & Kid Cudi’s “Kids See Ghosts” Livestream Hit With Delays

UPDATE: After repeatedly pushing back the start time, Kanye West and Kid Cudi’s Kids See Ghosts listening party has been delayed. The WAV app’s stream for the event has gone taken down and currently shows an error message. A collection of journalists and insiders have been bused to an undisclosed location in the Los Angeles area, with footage surfacing on social media. It looks like the WAV app is becoming the destination for Kanye West album rollouts. Much like last week’s release of ye , the G.O.O.D. Music founder and Kid Cudi will be streaming a listening party for their collaborative project Kids See Ghosts on the app. This event is being held in Los Angeles as opposed to Wyoming, which played host to the ye listening party. The disorganized nature of the proceedings in Wyoming led to its host venue, Diamond Ranch, instituting a no rappers policy in the aftermath. West and Cudi’s listening party was first announced by the latter’s manager, Dennis Cummi

Newest NASA discoveries could boost search for ancient life on Mars

In puffs of gas from rocks more than 3 billion years old dug up by one of NASA's robotic explorers on Mars, scientists have identified several complex organic molecules — possible building blocks for ancient life. It's not aliens. (It's never aliens.) But it is “consistent with the past presence of biology,” said Ken Williford, an astrobiologist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. “And it makes us more confident that if biomarkers” — or direct evidence of biologic activity — “are there, we might find them.” In two studies published today in the journal Science, this new finding from NASA's Curiosity rover is paired with another discovery: The planet's methane — another organic molecule usually (but not always) produced by living beings — varies with the seasons. In the past, scientists have seen plumes and patches of this intriguing substance, but this is the first time they've been able to discern a pattern in its presence. The resul

How Hereditary director Ari Aster became an unlikely horror hero

“I don’t necessarily consider myself a horror filmmaker,” writer-director Ari Aster tells me hours before his debut feature Hereditary screens at the 2018 Overlook Film Festival. It’s a surprising observation: Hereditary premiered to acclaim at Sundance, immediately sparking talk of an Oscar nomination for actress Toni Collette, and critics preemptively hailed it as the scariest movie of 2018. (It arrives in theaters on June 8th.) The film is a slow-motion nightmare, recalling 1960s and ‘70s classics like Rosemary’s Baby and Don’t Look Now as it tracks the disintegration of a family after the death of its matriarch. It’s stylish and unnerving, the rare kind of film that burrows into your psyche and lingers there afterward. It is unquestionably a horror film. And it’s the polar opposite of the measured, 31-year-old director. Aster is quiet and thoughtful, carefully considering every answer behind long pauses and expre

Kate Spade: Death ruled suicide by medical examiner

A New York medical examiner has ruled that Kate Spade's death was caused by suicide, two days after the fashion designer died in her Manhattan flat. Spade's body was discovered on Tuesday by a cleaner in her Park Avenue home. Federal health officials said on Thursday that US suicides had risen by 30% since 1999, and presents a "growing public health problem". Her family said that Spade would have liked if her death could help shed light on mental health issues. Mental illness 'doesn't discriminate' High school handbags and the New York City dream Kate Spade: A legacy of fashion in photos "One thing we feel is that any talk that they do that helps somebody else - Katy would have liked that," her 89-year-old father, Frank Brosnahan, told the Kansas City Star. "She was always giving and charitable. If that helped anybody avoid anything - fine, she'd be delighted." Mr Brosnahan added that the iconic designer had

The Washington Capitals Win Their First Stanley Cup

LAS VEGAS — Across their 43 seasons, the Washington Capitals have dabbled in hapless hockey and exquisite hockey, boring hockey and effective hockey, but never had they played winning hockey through four playoff rounds, all the way to a grueling, glorious end. It took a team hardened by those postseason failures but liberated from high expectations to complete a run as dazzling as it was cathartic, capping it on Thursday night by dispatching the upstart Vegas Golden Knights, 4-3, to win the first Stanley Cup in franchise history. It was the Capitals’ fourth consecutive victory in the finals after a disorienting 6-4 loss in the opener that made little sense in the context of how they played immediately before and afterward. After twice shutting out the offensive powerhouse Tampa Bay Lightning to advance to its first Cup finals since 1998, Washington outscored the Golden Knights across these last four games by 16-8. Lars Eller scored the winning goal with 7 mi
