The 6 Biggest Health Benefits Of Turmeric

The benefits of turmeric go far beyond boosting the flavour of your curry. Here are some of the biggest (research backed) health perks of this super spice.

1. It's a natural anti-inflammatory

Inflammation helps the body fight off viruses and repairs damage however, chronic inflammation becomes a problem as the body starts to attack its own tissues, resulting in a huge range of health problems.
Turmeric has been found to help fight off inflammation with almost the same efficacy as anti-inflammatory medication, just without the side effects.

2. It improves brain function and helps prevent Alzheimer's

Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is a type of growth hormone in the brain that improves brain function. Decreased levels of BDNF have been linked to brain diseases like Alzheimer's, therefore turmeric consumption helps boost levels of BDNF, in turn boosting brain function.

3. It lowers your risk of heart disease

Heart disease is the leading cause of death around the world, and turmeric has been proven to help reverse the disease's process.
Endothelial dysfunction (the lining of the blood cells) is a major factor of heart disease, and turmeric helps to improve endothelium function. A study found that patients who were undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery and were given curcumin (a compound found in turmeric root) reduced their risk of having a heart attack by 65 percent .

4. It can help prevent and treat cancer

The ability to cure cancer is a benefit claimed by many superfoods, but turmeric could be the real deal.
Curcumin has been found to contribute to the death of cancerous cells, as well as reduce the spread of the disease.
Turmeric is also being studied as a cancer preventative, especially for digestive cancers like colorectal cancer. This study found that 4 grams of curcumin a day for 30 days reduced the amount of colon lesions (which can sometimes turn cancerous) by 40 percent.

5. It can help combat depression

The curcumin in turmeric has also demonstrated significant results in treating depression. A study where patients took either curcumin or an antidepressant found that both groups reported similar results.
Turmeric can also help boost serotonin and dopamine, two of the brain's most important neurotransmitters.

6. It can help treat endometriosis

What can't this spice do?! A number of studies published in the Biomedicine & Pharmacy journal have also found that curcumin in turmeric helps repress endometrial lesions, which inhibits the progression of the disease.

Fortnite's Greasy Grove Treasure Map: Where To Find The Treasure

There's a new treasure map available in  Fortnite: Battle Royale.  This time you'll find the map tucked away in Greasy Grove as one of Season 4, Week 5's challenges. This is the first time during Season 4 for the challenges to drop on Thursday morning rather than Tuesday morning. The Greasy Grove treasure map comes on the heels of yesterday's v4.3 update. If you want to find the treasure this week, you can either head to Greasy Grove and search for the map, or you can read this guide which will lead you right to it. If you look closely you'll see this image almost resembles a face. Turn it so that the compass is facing north and you'll see it's the Evil Lair near Snobby Shores. The nefarious base, which was added as part of Season 4's mysterious villains vs superheroes theme, is just to the north-east of Snobby Shores, and the treasure itself can be found right on the outside 'nose.' Grab the treasure and you'll add 10...

The Foods You Need to Avoid to Keep Your Skin Clear

It's not necessarily greasy foods that are the culprits. It was an old wives’ tale worthy of medical research. Researchers managed to prove way back in 1969 that your chocolate noshing wasn’t causing you to break out, and that was a relief. In fact, science has since proven that certain foods can get rid of your acne. But that’s not to say that said old wives weren’t on to  something  because what you eat really does make a detrimental difference when it comes to your complexion,  according to Men’s Health. A study  published in the  Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics ventured to figure out exactly what the problematic pimple-causing foods were. The research involved two groups of 32 participants; one group had clear skin, the other had moderate-to-severe acne. Each group was asked to complete a five-day food diary and then get blood work done. Of all the participants, 61 percent believed that their diets were affect...
