Black Thought has partnered with 9th Wonder to release a project outside of his award-winning, critically-acclaimed work with The Roots.
Beyond his consistent, yet demanding gig with the hardest-working band in show business, including a daily spot on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon along with an acting career, the man born Tariq Trotter has often avoided the spotlight by choice. That all changed when Thought made a late 2017 appearance on Funkmaster Flex’s HOT 97 freestyle platform. Going off the rails, the South Philadelphia product demonstrated why he deserves to be cemented atop many Heads’ best MC lists.
Now Thought teams with 9th Wonder and his Soul Council for Streams Of Thought, Vol. 1. Grammy Award-winning 9th is also said to be at work on The Roots’ next LP and has made big noise with Tariq two years ago alongside Styles P in “Making A Murderer,” which is included in the five-song project. Meanwhile, the Soul Council presently includes Khrysis (of The Away Team), Nottz, Eric G., Kash, E Jones, and Reflection Eternal’s Hi-Tek.
If Kanye West releases his eighth album later today as reported, June 1 may grow to be a memorable day in Hip-Hop history. It may join the annals that include July 2, 1996 (Nas’ It Was Written and De La Soul’s Stakes Is High), September 11, 2007 (50 Cent’s Curtis and Kanye West’s Graduation), and June 18, 2013 (Kanye West’s Yeezus, J. Cole’s Born Sinner, and Mac Miller’s Watching Movies With The Sound Off).
